Laugh, and the world laughs with you; 
웃어라! 그러면 세상은 너와 함께 웃을 것이다.

For the sad old earth must borrow it's mirth,
낡고 슬픈 땅위에 환희는 빌어와야만 하고

But has trouble enough of it's own. 
고통은 그 자체만으로도 충분할지니

Sing, and the hills will answer; 
노래하라, 언덕들은 대답할 것이다.

Sigh, it is lost on the air. 
탄식하라, 한숨은 허공에 흩어지리라.

The echoes bound to a joyful sound, 
메아리는 기쁨에 찬 소리로 춤을 추지만

But shrink from voicing care. 
근심으로부터는 외면할 것이니라.


Rejoice, and men will seek you; 
기뻐하라, 그러면 사람들은 너를 찾을 것이다.

Grieve, and they turn and go. 
슬픔으로부터 그들은 등을 돌릴 것이다.

They want full measure of all your pleasure, 
사람들은 너에게서 기쁨의 모든 것을 원하지만

But they do not need your woe. 
너의 근심은 필요로하지 않을 것이다.

Be glad, and your friends are many;

Be sad, and you lose them all.

There are none to decline your nectared wine,

Feast, and your halls are crowded; 
축제를 열라, 네집은 사람들로 넘쳐 날 것이다.

Fast, and the world goes by. 
굶주려라, 그러면 세상은 그대를 지나칠 것이다.

Succeed and give, and it helps you live, 
성공하여 베풀라.그리하면 네 삶을 도우리라.

But no man can help you die.
그러나 네 죽음은 그 누구도 돕지 못하리라.

There is room in the halls of pleasure 
길고도 화려한 행렬을 위한

For a long and lordly train, 
기쁨의 집엔 방이 있건만

But one by one we must all file on 
비좁고 고통스러운 통로를 지날 때엔
